Nekram Upadhyay MS leads the Department of Assistive Technology (DAT) at the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, New Delhi, India. He studied technology at the University of Illinois, Chicago, USA, specializing in Assistive Technology as part of the Ford Foundation International Fellowship programme. Alongside leading the DAT, Nekram is a PhD candidate in the Department of Design, Delhi Technological University (DTU), where his research focuses on universal design and assistive technology’s relationship with the product development process.
Nekram’s body of woris the provision of assistive technology services to people with disabilities to maximise their functional independence. Nekram has been an active member of various national and international scientific societies and organizations, such as the World Disability Rehabilitation Network, the International Society for Prosthectic and Orthotics, and the Asian Spinal Cord Network.
Nekram is also a member of Bureau of Indian Standards Committee and is chair of the Special Interest Group on Assistive Technology and Orthotics of Spinal Cord Society-India.
